character information for the unfamiliar.

vibes
- Fussy princess, hedonist, high camp.
- Curious about the world and the people in it.
- Manipulative liar, especially if he feels unsafe, but is trying to do better by those he cares for.
- Used to be willing to use his body to get what he wanted but is trying to retain his own agency now.
- Rebuilding his sense of self after trauma using positive examples of those around him.
- Was unpleasant and judgemental even before he was forced into committing vile deeds for his master. Morally injured, numb to evil.
- Loves to bully, gossip and tease - and cannot take what he dishes.
- Processes most negative emotions as anger and disgust, aimed outwards.
- Not great at planning ahead or thinking about consequences.
- Violently loyal.
- Enjoys quiet activities like sewing and reading, but is also fun at parties.
- Kind of like if they sexualized gollum.

history As a human, Astarion was a well-off magistrate in the city of Baldur's Gate, until a judgement against a member of the nomadic and often discriminated against Gur meant the clan members beat him in an alleyway. He was "rescued" from the brink of death by the powerful vampire lord Cazador Szarr, who enslaved him as his first spawn, and physically, mentally and emotionally tortured Astarion for two hundred years.

By happenstance, a mindflayer nautiloid (DnD's psychic aliens with the Cthulu tentacle mouths) happened to pick him up as it teleported through the city, and he was given a parasitic brain worm that the mindflayers used to brainwash their victims as they underwent 'ceremorphosis' into new mindflayers, building the hivemind. However soon after the flying ship crashed, and Astarion was able to come in under the protection of a mysterious artefact that protected he and his companions from that monstrous transformation.

The worm, even in this stasis, severed Cazador's hold over him and allowed him freedom from the drawbacks of being a vampire spawn, able to walk in the sun and enter buildings without an invitation.

Unfortunately the artefact shielding him is wanted by many parties, and the group is drawn into a massive political conspiracy, where the Chosen of three different death gods have banded together to use a magical crown to control an "elder brain", the psychic being that is the central control of a mindflayer hivemind. Alongside some other wacky adventures, Astarion helps his new friends take down these Chosen three, returns to Baldur's Gate to kill his former master, destroys the elder brain and saves the world.
